One of the inspirations in the the Tiny House community in Europe is Marjolein Jonker who not only lives in her Tiny House in The Netherlands, but seems to spend most of her time promoting the Tiny House movement and giving advice to people who are thinking about going into Tiny House living. Having spent time since 2015 building and siting her Tiny House, she is well qualified to answer many questions on Tiny House living, especially in The Netherlands, but so many aspects of Tiny House living transfer to anywhere in the World.

You’ll find her website here Marjolein in het klein (translates as ‘Marjolein in miniature’). It is now also in English as well as Dutch and offers some good inspiration for Tiny House living. You’ll also find her on Facebook  as well as Instagram updates and photo’s of life in the Tiny House, plus of course her cat Hella.

Some would say that Marjolein is a bit of a purist in her Tiny House living, as she is completely off grid, and generates her own power from Solar PV. It can be tough to limit your power consumption to what the sun can provide at any time of the year, but she is managing very nicely. One of the aspects with living in a Tiny House, is that you cannot fill your life with too many belongings, they would not fit into your living space!. Keeping minimalist will keep your life tidy, plus you’ll have more money to spend on your life too.

Marjolein is also one of the people organising the Jamboree in Almere near Amsterdam in October, along with a small team of others, the event promises to be a great day for anyone thinking about Tiny Houses. The Jamboree is the culmination day of a whole Tiny House promotion period in The Netherlands, as mentioned elsewhere on this website, we’ll be going along to see the cutting edge of Tiny House technology in Europe.
